- Watertightness – the roof and walls don’t leak, the floor is solid and not rotten
- Structural integrity – corner posts, frame, and load-bearing parts are free from deformation
- Functional doors – both wings open smoothly, the seal fits properly
- Valid CSC certification – a valid plate with the date of the last inspection is on the doors
A CW container may have cosmetic defects – scratches, minor dents, surface rust. These are signs of normal operation and don’t affect functionality. For storage, a workshop, or construction purposes, a CW container is a perfectly sufficient choice.
AS IS – “as it stands”
A container in the AS IS category is sold as is – without any warranty for watertightness, construction, or functionality. It is usually an older container after many years of service or a unit with defects. Common issues include:
- Holes in the roof or walls
- Advanced corrosion, especially at the corners and on the floor
- Non-functional or hard-to-open doors
- Damaged wooden floor (rot, cracks)

Buying a used container is an investment that should serve you for years. Pay attention to the following points.
What to check before buying
- Floor – the wooden floor is the most susceptible to damage. Press on it at the corners and along the walls. Look for soft spots, signs of rot, cracks, or chemical stains. Floor repairs are costly.
- Roof – from outside and inside. Inspect it completely – rusty spots, holes, or bulging areas signal leaking. If daylight is visible through the roof, the container is not watertight.
- Doors and seal – open and close both wings fully. They must move smoothly, without sticking. The rubber seal (also called gasket) must not be swollen, torn, or missing – otherwise the container leaks.
- Corner posts and frame – the most important load-bearing elements. Inspect all 8 corners. If the posts are twisted, dented, or heavily corroded, the container loses its load-bearing capacity and strength.
- Overall corrosion – surface rust is normal. The problem is deep corrosion that weakens the structure. Focus on the joints between the floor and walls, the bottom frame, and the corners.
- Locking mechanism – test whether the doors can be locked and whether the mechanism is complete (locking rods, holders, seal loops).
