This modified shipping container with a length of 40 feet (exactly 12.2 meters) in High Cube version offers a unique solution for storage and drive-through material handling. Its open construction without a left side wall and without front doors makes it a practical tunnel-like space, which is particularly suitable as a through-storage for bulk materials. It is not intended for transport – it lacks a valid CSC plate – but it excels in durability and variability for static use. Container transport throughout the Czech Republic is provided, with the transport price calculated according to the place of container delivery.

Price composition:

  • Cutting off the left side for 380€ excl. VAT
  • Cutting out the container doors for 140€ excl. VAT
  • Container price according to the currently available offer (this one was for 3 580€)
  • assembly and locksmith work

Dimensions, Load Capacity and Volume of the 12 m Container

The High Cube version of the 40-foot container offers 30 centimeters more internal height compared to the standard version, which is often a crucial advantage for storage. Here are the typical parameters:

  • External length: 12,192 mm (40 feet)
  • External width: 2,438 mm
  • External height: 2,896 mm (High Cube)
  • Internal length: approx. 12,032 mm
  • Internal width: approx. 2,352 mm
  • Internal height: approx. 2,698 mm
  • Internal volume: approximately 76.3 m³
  • Maximum gross weight: usually 34,000 kg (floor load capacity even for heavy materials)
  • Net load capacity: after modification, several tens of tons remain, but the exact value is affected by the condition of the floor and the load distribution – for normal storage of bulk materials it is sufficient.

Thanks to the removed wall and doors, you also have the full width and height at your disposal without any door frames or thresholds, so even a bulky excavator bucket or a truck body with side wings can pass through without restrictions. The dimensions are approximate and may always vary slightly depending on the manufacturer.

IICL 6 Quality – What Does It Mean for You?

The IICL 6 quality designation comes from the international institute for shipping containers (Institute of International Container Lessors). It is a category of used containers that have undergone detailed inspection and meet strict requirements for operability and safety. Specifically, IICL 6 indicates a container in very good condition – without damage to the load-bearing structure, with a solid floor, tight roof and a minimum number of cosmetic defects, such as minor scratches or paint abrasions. It is not new, but still offers high utility value and long service life for storage purposes. For your purpose, it is an ideal choice: you get a reliable and durable space at a reasonable price, without paying for unnecessary “newness” intended for transport.

Color RAL 7016 – Elegance and Functionality in Anthracite Grey

The construction is coated in the RAL 7016 shade, known as anthracite grey. It is a rich, dark grey tone with a subtle bluish tint that looks modern and discreet. It fits perfectly into industrial areas, farms and commercial plots where you do not want the storage element to shout with tasteless color. Anthracite grey also visually hides common dirt and, thanks to the high-quality polyurethane coating, resists corrosion, UV radiation and mechanical abrasion – the container thus maintains a presentable appearance for a long time.

Why Exactly This Container?

The removal of the side wall and front doors transforms a standard transport unit into something much more useful. The resulting space allows convenient entry, for example, with a loader, tractor or truck body, so loading and unloading of bulk material is fast and without unnecessary carrying. That’s why we talk about a through-storage – you bring material in from one side, dump it out from the other, or do both smoothly in one direction.

Thanks to the absence of obstacles, even taller equipment fits inside and the entire container volume is fully usable. In addition, the solid steel floor construction, right wall, rear wall and roof remain, which protects the stored contents from weather, dust or theft (if the open side is strategically placed against a wall or fence).

Through-Storage for Bulk Materials – For Whom and Why?

The main advantage of this modified unit is the possibility of direct drive-through. Imagine situations where you need a protected space for loosely stored raw materials, but you don’t want to waste time shoveling from pile to pile. With this container, you back in from one side, dump or scoop out, and continue – ideal for fast logistics on construction sites, in agriculture or recycling yards.

Who Is It Suitable for as a Through-Storage for Bulk Materials?

  • Construction companies – storage of sand, gravel, crushed stone, recycled concrete or soil directly on the construction site. A protected pile does not create dust, does not blow away and does not lose moisture.
  • Farmers – storage of grain, feed mixtures, peas, soybeans, rapeseed or straw in safe dryness and with the possibility of convenient loading with a front loader.
  • Municipal services and technical administrations – de-icing salt, crushed stone for winter maintenance, sand for a sandbox or mulching bark for parks – everything hidden from snow and rain.
  • Recycling centers and collection yards – intermediate storage of crushed plastic, glass, paper or metal scrap that can be easily loaded with equipment.
  • Manufacturing companies – raw materials such as sawdust, pellets, granulate, expanded clay or coal – you protect them from moisture and at the same time have immediate access without opening doors.

What Can Be Stored in Such a Container?

Thanks to the solid steel floor trough and durable roof, it can hold practically any bulk material. The most common include:

  • aggregate (pebble, gravel, crushed aggregate)
  • sands and clays
  • soil and topsoil
  • cereals and oilseeds
  • feed mixtures and granulates
  • de-icing salts and chemical additives (assuming a suitable base)
  • biomass (wood chips, bark, shavings, pellets)
  • construction waste and recyclate

However, make sure that the material is not aggressively chemical – the steel shell does provide a good barrier, but long-term exposure to strong acids or alkalis could damage the coating and cause corrosion. For common bulk materials, the protection is fully sufficient.

How Much Fits in a 40-Foot High Cube?

The internal volume of over 76 m³ offers an impressive storage capacity. For illustration:

  • Sand (bulk density approx. 1,600 kg/m³) → up to 122 tons, but the floor and distribution usually limit the load to a lower value – with a pile height of 2.5 meters and an assumed width of 2.3 meters, approximately 40–50 m³ realistically fits, i.e. about 65–80 tons.
  • Gravel (1,800 kg/m³) → similar volume, weight around 70–90 tons.
  • Grain (wheat approx. 750 kg/m³) → the bulk material spreads beautifully, you will use almost the entire volume – up to 57 tons of wheat.
  • Wood chips (300 kg/m³) → full volume means approximately 23 tons.

Of course, the floor load capacity and uneven loading must be observed. Don’t forget that the removed side wall slightly reduces rigidity, so don’t lean the material against one edge with a sudden rolling motion – a bulk cone is fine.

Other Creative Uses for a Modified Container

Although it is primarily intended as a drive-through storage, the open construction invites unconventional ideas:

  • Covered handling corridor – connect two buildings and protect equipment or employees from rain.
  • Parking shelter for large machines – a tractor, combine harvester, loader or truck will appreciate the roof above the cab.
  • Covered equipment wash – entrance on one side, inside a space for pressure water cleaning, water drainage provided by a floor with a slight slope.
  • Temporary greenhouse or polytunnel – the right side wall and roof provide a solid frame, attach a transparent tarp to the open side and you have an instant seedbed

It only depends on your imagination and specific needs – the container can be further modified (for example, by adding a partition wall, shelves or skylights), but in its basic form it immediately serves as a ready-made shelter.
