Used maritime container: Ideal solution for manufacturers and distributors of cement components

Production and distribution of cement components bring specific requirements for storage, protection from weather, and transport. Used maritime containers represent an ideal choice in this segment due to their robust construction, versatility, and easy handling. Shipping containers are designed to meet even the most demanding conditions, and therefore are becoming an increasingly popular alternative to traditional warehouses and transport means in the cement industry.

Potential uses in the cement industry

A used maritime container can be used in the field of cement components as:

  • Storage of raw materials (cement, sand, aggregate, additives)
  • Storage of finished cement products and semi‑finished goods (panels, tiles, building blocks, prefabricates)
  • Storage of tools, molds and machinery
  • Mobile intermediate storage on construction site
  • Transport unit for export or moving products between facilities
  • Facilities for staff, technical base or mobile workshop

What can be stored in the container?

Thanks to the solid steel construction and tightness, containers can safely store:

  • Raw cement in bags or sacks
  • Dry mixes and additives for concrete
  • Prefabricated concrete elements (panels, blocks, curbs)
  • Reinforcement elements, metal and plastic components
  • Tools, molds, construction chemicals
  • Sensitive machines and equipment that need protection from moisture

Capacity of 40‑foot High Cube container

The 40’ High Cube (HC) container offers an internal length of approximately 12.03 m, width 2.35 m and height 2.69 m. This means more than 76 m³ of storage space and a load capacity of up to 28 tonnes. For illustration: when storing cement bags (standard 25 kg) the container can hold over 1,000 units, or for example dozens of pallets with prefabricates. The HC height allows more efficient stacking of larger components.

Transport options and what can be carried

Maritime containers are standardized and easily handled by forklifts, cranes or container trailers. They allow:

  • Transport of cement products over long distances by road, rail and ship
  • Export of finished components abroad
  • Safe transfers between production and construction sites without the need for reloading goods
  • Protection of cargo from rain, dust and theft

In the cement industry, this allows transport not only of raw materials and finished products but also molds, tools, small machines and equipment.

Conversion and modification possibilities

A used maritime container can be easily adapted to specific needs. Common modifications include:

  • Installation of shelves, racks and holders for more efficient material arrangement
  • Installation of ventilation or dehumidifier for storing sensitive mixes
  • Insulation and electrical installation to create a workshop or technical room
  • Creation of a mobile storage for construction site with locking and security features
  • Fitting larger entrance doors for easy handling of oversized prefabricates

Who is the container suitable for?

  • Manufacturers of cement and concrete building elements
  • Concrete plants and mixers
  • Construction companies undertaking large projects (bridges, roads, halls)
  • Logistics firms specializing in construction materials
  • Manufacturers of prefabricated houses and modular buildings
  • Operators of storage yards

Additional conversion and usage options

Besides storage, the container in the cement industry can be used as:

  • Mobile laboratory for material testing directly on site
  • Facilities for staff including changing rooms and sanitary facilities
  • Sales storage directly at the customer’s site or on the construction site
  • Temporary facilities in case of renovation or relocation of the operation

Advantages of using a maritime container in cement industry

  • Robust, watertight and lockable construction
  • Quick availability and easy handling
  • Possibility of repeated use and mobility
  • Flexible internal layout adaptation
  • Protection of goods from weather and theft
  • Higher logistics and storage efficiency
  • Easy relocation between facilities and construction sites

Mobility and recommendations for the cement sector

Thanks to standardized dimensions and easy handling, the container can be moved at any time according to current needs – from the production area directly to the construction site, or to another warehouse. This is a crucial advantage in the cement sector, saving time and money.

We recommend considering the purchase of multiple containers for material segregation by type, or using one of the containers as a mobile facility for workers.

Inspiration and ideas

  • Modular storage solutions for larger manufacturers
  • Combination of storage with a mobile workshop in a single container
  • Use of the container as a mobile laboratory for quality control
  • Raw material storage with regulated humidity

A used maritime container is a smart, fast and economical solution for anyone in the cement components field seeking efficient and safe storage, transport and facilities.
