Small shipping containers with a length of 20 feet (approximately 6 meters) represent an ideal choice for storage, transport, and specialized conversions. Their compact dimensions combined with robust construction and top-quality IICL 6 make them a universal helper not only for industry, but especially for emergency response units, where speed, mobility, and durability play a key role. Container transport to Chrudim and elsewhere throughout the Czech Republic is free of charge upon meeting the conditions below.

Dimensions and technical parameters of 20-foot containers

The standard 20-foot shipping container offers proven dimensions:

  • external length is 6.058 meters
  • width 2.438 meters
  • and height 2.591 meters

The interior space with a length of approximately 5.898 meters, width of 2.352 meters, and height of 2.393 meters provides a volume of about 33 cubic meters. This space is sufficient for storing a large amount of material. The gross container payload typically reaches up to 30,480 kilograms, while the empty container’s own weight (tare) is around 2,200 kilograms – so the useful payload exceeds 28 tons. Thanks to these parameters, it can carry even heavier equipment without risk of deformation. Dimensions are indicative and may always vary slightly depending on the manufacturer.

IICL 6 quality and modern RAL 7035 color

The IICL 6 quality standard, set by the international institute for container leasing, guarantees the excellent condition of the decommissioned container. Containers of this quality undergo a thorough inspection – they are structurally flawless, without damage to load-bearing parts, clean, and coated with a new uniform paint. Visually, only minor cosmetic imperfections may be present, which do not affect functionality or durability in any way. RAL 7035 color, designated as light gray, was chosen specifically for its neutrality and aesthetics. It withstands weather conditions well, does not excessively reflect sunlight, and easily blends into any environment – from urban developments to natural terrain. The quality coating also protects the steel construction from corrosion and extends overall durability.

Simple EOD opening and effective ventilation

The patented Easy Open Door (EOD) system ensures trouble-free door opening even by a single person. Smoothly seated hinges and ergonomic handles allow handling even with gloves, which is especially appreciated by firefighters, rescuers, or soldiers during rapid response. Fourteen integrated ventilation openings (14x Air Vents) along the side walls contribute to permanent air circulation inside the container. This ventilation minimizes the risk of moisture condensation, mold formation, and musty odors, making the container suitable even for long-term storage of more sensitive equipment, such as textiles, medical supplies, or electronics.

Universal use for emergency response units

The steel strength, compactness, and variability of 20-foot containers predestine them for the needs of emergency response units. Fire brigades, integrated rescue system, civil protection units, police, or army find in them a mobile and secure basis for their activities. The container can be immediately deployed as a warehouse, dispatch logistics center, or after appropriate conversion as a fully-fledged operational headquarters.

Storage of equipment for rescue services

Up to 33 cubic meters can comfortably accommodate extensive inventory. Using shelving systems, container walls with hooks, hanging holders, or drawer boxes, you can systematically store hoses, nozzles, pumps, chainsaws, generators, lighting towers, rescue equipment, floating pumps, inflatable tents, protective clothing, breathing apparatus, first aid kits, radios, batteries, and tools. The robust floor can withstand even heavy hydraulic rescue sets. Ventilation openings maintain an optimal microclimate, so the equipment stays dry and ready for immediate use.

Mobile transport and logistics

Small shipping containers are designed for easy handling. Standard gripping corners allow quick transfers using a crane, forklift, or hook loader. They can be transported on flatbed trailers, trucks, and by rail. For emergency response units, this means the ability to operationally move complete equipment to a crisis area – whether to a fire, flood, technical intervention, or humanitarian mission. Thanks to standardized dimensions, logistics are predictable and compatible with common transport infrastructure.

Conversion and modification options

An empty container is like a blank canvas that can be adapted to a specific mission. For emergency response units, conversions to mobile command posts have proven successful – with insulation, electrical installation, data cabling, workstations, and air conditioning. You can also build a decontamination shower container with built-in water tanks and pumps, a container lazaret or field hospital unit, ammunition storage with additional safety features, an arms vault for the police, an educational room with projection equipment, or even an accommodation unit for crews sleeping in the field. The construction allows cutting window openings, installing doors with panic hardware, ventilation flaps, and anchor points for equipment. EOD doors remain the main entrance and can be supplemented with an internal grille for security. The advantage remains that the converted container retains its payload capacity and can be moved as a regular logistics module.

Additional benefits for emergency response units

The modularity of the container system allows building assemblies – several 20-foot units side by side or stacked create an extensive operational center. The steel shell resists mechanical damage, vandalism, and extreme weather. Integrated ventilation openings reduce humidity even without energy-intensive ventilation. Security is enhanced by the lockable door mechanism, which can be equipped with padlocks or electronic coding. Mobility remains a key benefit – the container can be kept permanently at the base, or transported to an emergency according to the current situation. We recommend thinking through the interior layout before purchase and having shelving or drawer sets professionally designed to measure, so that every centimeter of space is used efficiently.
