Looking for a sturdy and versatile base for open storage, a container frame, or an original garden project? We present a specially modified shipping container, of which only the durable steel skeleton remains. This frame offers endless possibilities for use while retaining all the advantages of the original transport unit – strength, stable dimensions, and long service life. We will deliver this container frame throughout the Czech Republic and abroad, with the price calculated according to the delivery destination.

What is a shipping container frame

A shipping container frame, also known as a shipping container skeleton, container frame, trimmed container, or shipping container without walls, is created by removing the side walls, roof, and doors from a standard 20-foot container. The steel infill panels are cut off with an angle grinder, so only the load-bearing structure remains in place – corner posts, floor, and bottom frame, including forklift pockets.

The remnants of the trapezoidal sheet metal are ground down after cutting, but are not sanded to absolute smoothness. Small irregularities and cutting marks are therefore commonly visible on the structure – the specific condition corresponds to the attached photographs. This modification means that the shipping container without walls can no longer be used for transporting goods and does not have a valid CSC plate. It serves exclusively for storage, construction, and creative purposes.

Dimensions, load capacity, and volume of the 20-foot frame

Despite the missing walls, the main dimensions and parameters remain the same as for a standard 20-foot container:

  • External length: 6,058 mm
  • External width: 2,438 mm
  • External height: 2,591 mm
  • Internal length (floor): 5,898 mm
  • Internal width (floor): 2,352 mm
  • Floor load capacity: standard up to approx. 28,000 kg (depends on the specific piece, derived from the original container)
  • Maximum gross weight: 30,480 kg
  • Volume of the space enclosed by the frame: approximately 33 m³

Thanks to the open design, however, you can use the full height profile without the limitations of walls – for example, for storing tall equipment or loose material. The dimensions are approximate and may always vary slightly depending on the manufacturer.

IICL 6 Quality – what it means

IICL 6 is an international standard for assessing the condition of used shipping containers. The IICL designation (Institute of International Container Lessors) guarantees that the container has passed a strict inspection and meets high requirements for structural integrity. IICL 6 quality means that the container is operational, has a solid floor, undamaged corner posts and beams, and shows no corrosion that would compromise its structural integrity. Even though the skeleton is subsequently modified by cutting off the walls, you start with a quality base that retains excellent load capacity and durability even after modification.

Color RAL 7035 – light gray

The structure is painted in shade RAL 7035, which is a light gray color with a subtle, industrial appearance. This shade is often used for technical buildings, electrical cabinets, and machines because it looks clean, neutral, and easily blends with the surroundings. RAL 7035 also resists graying well, does not absorb excessive heat, and helps prevent stored items from overheating. It looks professional and unobtrusive both outdoors and indoors.

Uses of the frame – a completely open warehouse and other ideas

The most common reason for purchasing a skeleton is to create a completely open warehouse. The frame provides a sturdy, flat, and elevated surface that protects stored items from ground moisture while allowing access from all sides. It is particularly suitable for:

  • Building materials and equipment – pallets, scaffolding, construction machines, formwork, pipes, iron, insulation.
  • Agricultural supplies – feed, fertilizers, tools, seasonal equipment.
  • Equipment and vehicles – storage of small machines, ATVs, garden equipment, motorcycles.
  • Seasonal items – tires, boats, garden furniture, sports equipment.
  • Recycling centers and municipal services – clear waste sorting, storage of separated materials.

The frame can also be used as a base for a covered parking space, car shelter, outdoor workshop, firewood storage, open showroom, or a creative element in landscape architecture. The open structure allows for easy covering with a tarp, installation of a lightweight roof, or even enclosure with wood or composite according to your own ideas.

Who is the frame suitable for and where to place it

The skeleton will find use with:

  • Construction companies and craftsmen who need a mobile and durable warehouse on construction sites.
  • Farmers and growers for storing equipment and crops.
  • Waste management and recycling companies.
  • Municipalities and technical services for seasonal equipment storage.
  • DIY enthusiasts and homeowners who want a practical and durable base for a workshop, garage, or garden storage.

The frame is ideal for hardened surfaces – asphalt, concrete, paving, gravel. It can also stand on level ground, but we always recommend adding a sub-base and leveling to prevent the floor from deforming. Thanks to the open design, you do not need a building permit for a shelter, and yet you get a sturdy storage space.

How much fits in a 20-foot frame – capacity

With full use of the floor area (approx. 13.9 m²) and height up to the upper edge of the posts, you can store in the frame:

  • 10–12 standard euro pallets (in one layer)
  • 6–8 IBC containers (1000 l)
  • 2–3 smaller vehicles, ATVs, or motorcycles
  • approx. 20–25 m³ of bulk material (if enclosed, for example, with boards)
  • several hundred tires or larger parts

Everything is easily accessible without the need to open doors, handling is quick and clear.

Recommendations and ideas for maximum use

  • Roofing – a simple structure of trapezoidal sheet metal or polycarbonate will significantly extend the service life of stored items and enable year-round operation.
  • Mobile version – by mounting on rails or a sliding system, you get a mobile warehouse that can be moved as needed.
  • Fencing – the frame can be easily surrounded with wire mesh to create a cage for storing more valuable items.
  • Joining multiple frames – two or three frames side by side create an extensive storage area with minimal costs.
  • Base for garden projects – as a base for a greenhouse, pergola, or outdoor kitchen.
