Shipping Container 12m – 40’HC IICL: Ideal Solution for Historical Mining Colonies

The 12-metre shipping container, designated as 40’HC IICL, is a versatile, robust, and highly durable solution for storage, transport, and conversion. Its great advantage is not only the spacious interior, but also the flexibility of use – especially in the environment of historical mining colonies, where it is necessary to protect and preserve valuable items, exhibitions, or equipment. Let us take a closer look at the possible uses of this type of container in these specific locations.

Who Is the Shipping Container Intended For

The 40’HC IICL shipping container is suitable for museums, administrators of historical mining colonies, municipalities, associations, and anyone who needs safe and flexible spaces in the field of heritage conservation. It can be used by exhibition organizers, open-air museum operators, craftsmen working on reconstructions, as well as administrators of depositories or technical facilities.

Possible Uses in Historical Mining Colonies

The container can be used as:

  • Temporary or permanent storage spaces for collection items, tools, building materials, equipment, and documentation.
  • A mobile depository with the option of easy relocation according to current project needs.
  • Facilities for workers, a changing room, workshop, or office.
  • An exhibition space for temporary expositions.
  • A sales stand, ticket booth, or visitor information centre.
  • A secure space for archiving historical documents and sensitive artefacts.

What Can Be Stored and How Much Fits

The internal volume of the 40’HC IICL container is approximately 76 m³, which provides sufficient space for a wide variety of needs. To give an idea: the container can accommodate several dozen shelving units with archival materials, a large number of exhibition panels, historical machinery, tools, barrels, building materials, or collection items protected against moisture and dust.

For smaller projects, a smaller 20-foot container (6 m) can also be used, with a capacity of approximately 33 m³. This container can store, for example, basic workshop equipment, historical tools, or smaller furnishings.

Transport Options and What to Transport

Shipping containers are primarily designed for transport by rail, road, and sea. Within mining colonies, it is possible to transport, for example:

  • Exhibition materials and expositions between individual buildings.
  • Building and renovation materials directly to the place of use.
  • Historical machinery and equipment for presentation or maintenance.
  • Supplies for events, festivals, and workshops.

The mobile nature of the container allows easy relocation by crane or forklift directly to hard-to-reach areas within the colony premises.

Container Conversion Options

The 40’HC IICL container can easily be converted into:

  • A mobile office or staff facilities.
  • A fully equipped depository with shelving, air conditioning, and security.
  • An exhibition space with expositions and information panels.
  • A souvenir shop, refreshment stand, or information centre.
  • A workshop space for maintenance and restoration of collections.
  • An artist’s studio or a multifunctional community space.

The advantage is that conversions are quick, often without any intervention in the structure of heritage-protected buildings, and with the option of relocating the container again.

Advantages of Using a Container in Historical Colonies

  • Quick provision of secure spaces without the need for construction work.
  • Protection of property against weather conditions, moisture, and vandalism.
  • Flexibility in placement and use (option to change function over time).
  • Possibility of stacking multiple containers and expanding capacity as needed.
  • Easy maintenance and long service life thanks to quality construction.

Other Possible Uses

In addition to storage and transport, the container can also be used as:

  • Facilities for cultural events, festivals, and workshops.
  • Mobile technical facilities (generator, tanks, technical workshop).
