Dimensions, load capacity and volume of a 20-foot container
A standard 20′ shipping container has internal dimensions of approximately 5.9 m in length, 2.35 m in width and 2.39 m in height, providing a total volume of around 33.2 m³. The useful container load capacity is up to 25,000 kg. Dimensions are approximate and may always vary slightly by manufacturer.
Thanks to its robust steel construction, the container is resistant to weather and mechanical damage, making it suitable not only for transport, but especially for safe and dry storage outside of interiors.
Decommissioned container as an ideal warehouse for scout troops
Scout troops often face the question of how to efficiently and safely store their equipment, tools and materials needed for activities and site maintenance. Decommissioned shipping container, for example in size20 feet, represents a modern and universal solution that meets all requirements for safety, space and variability of use.
Advantages of a decommissioned container for scouts
Used shipping container is robust, durable and designed to withstand extreme conditions. As a result, scout troops get a warehouse that protects the contents not only from humidity and dust, but also from unwanted visitors. Container can be placed directly on the campsite, in the clubhouse or in the troop area, where it will provide a safe place to store everything you need.
Other benefits include:
- Modularity: The container can be easily moved and, if necessary, expand the capacity by adding another module.
- Maintenance-free: The steel construction requires minimal maintenance, which every troop leader will appreciate.
- Long service life: Even after being retired from transport, containers serve for decades.
Equipment storage options
Within the scout troop, it is necessary to store a wide range of equipment – from tents, platforms, benches and tables, to cookers, boxes with dishes, ropes, axes, saws or sports equipment. Decommissioned container provides enough space for clear and safe storage of everything the troop owns.
Thanks to simple internal modifications – such as shelves, shelves or hanging systems – the space in the container can be used to the maximum and ensure clarity and quick access to all things.
Storage of tools and materials for site maintenance
Every scout area requires regular maintenance. Axes, saws, rakes, shovels, paints, ropes, spare parts:
all this must be safe and at hand. The container offers an ideal opportunity to separate these tools from the rest of the equipment and ensure their safe storage. In addition, the steel walls protect against possible theft and damage to tools.
What can be stored in the container
The possibilities of use are endless. A 20-foot container can comfortably fit:
- Complete camp kitchen including tables and benches
- Large number of tents with and without platforms
- Sports and play equipment (balls, ropes, sticks, cones, board games)
- Tools and materials for maintenance (wheels, canisters, paints, spare parts)
- Storage boxes with personal belongings of scouts
- Archive of troop documents and chronicles protected from moisture
The container can be further divided into sections according to the type of equipment, or supplemented with padlocks or safety closures.
Capacity and practical ideas
Standard 20-foot container offers an internal space of approximately 33 m³. This means that it can hold dozens of large boxes, several tents with platforms, tools and bulky material. Thanks to floor load capacity over 20 tons you can store even heavy things without fear of damage.
Tips for effective use:
- Install shelves for smaller items and tools.
- Create a hanger wall for ropes, backpacks or raincoats.
- Use plastic boxes and label them for easy orientation.
- Set aside space for seasonal items that are not needed all year round.
Decommissioned shipping container provides scout troops with a simple, safe and long-term sustainable way to efficiently store everything they need for their activities. It will be appreciated by smaller and larger troops, campers and site managers. With minimal maintenance costs and maximum protection of property, it is an investment that really pays off.
