Shipping Container 6m Decommissioned in Storage – AS IS 10, 219 305-6
Decommissioned shipping containers of 20 feet (approximately 6 meters) in length are an excellent solution for storing various materials. The “AS IS 10” quality designation indicates a fully functional container that is no longer suitable for further structural modifications, but still offers sufficient safety and protection for stored goods. Shipping of this container to Dubí as well as elsewhere throughout the Czech Republic is free upon meeting the conditions listed below.
Dimensions, Load Capacity and Volume of a 20-foot Container
A shipping container of 20 feet (approximately 6 meters) in size is among the most commonly used storage units. Its external dimensions are approximately 6.06 m in length, 2.44 m in width and 2.59 m in height. The internal space offers approximately 5.90 m × 2.35 m × 2.39 m, allowing you to create a storage facility with a volume of approximately 33 m³ and load capacity of up to 28 tons. This means you can comfortably store hundreds of bags of feed, bales of hay, pellets and other materials. These containers are designed for transporting heavy cargo and withstand demanding conditions.
Dimensions are approximate and may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer.
Shipping Container Decommissioned for Feed Storage
Decommissioned shipping containers, also referred to as “AS IS”, have served in maritime transport and are no longer suitable for further modifications or conversions. Nevertheless, they offer numerous advantages and thanks to their robust construction, tightness and durability, they are an ideal choice for safe feed storage. Their secondary use is also environmentally friendly and economical – you extend the lifespan of the material and save money on building a traditional storage hall or brick building.
Possible Uses and Storage
A decommissioned container provides a simple, quick and safe way to protect feed from weather, moisture, pests and thieves. You can store in it:
- Hay and straw
- Granulated and bulk feed for farm animals (cattle, pigs, sheep, horses, poultry)
- Feed mixtures, vitamins, mineral supplements
- Grain, corn, oats
- Bags or big bags with feed
- Pet food (dogs, cats)
Thanks to its high tightness, the container protects the contents from rain, snow and pest infiltration. At the same time, it is possible to equip it with ventilation for better air circulation and reduced risk of mold.
Who is Feed Storage from a Container Suitable For?
Such storage will be appreciated especially by:
- Small and large farmers, livestock breeders
- Equestrian facilities, stables, agricultural enterprises
- Poultry and small animal breeders
- Zoos, animal shelters
- Hobby breeders or gardeners
Where to Place the Container as Feed Storage
The container can be placed almost anywhere – in a yard, meadow, field, near a hall, in a farm area or near an agricultural building. The advantage is mobility, so if needed, you can easily relocate it using a crane or forklift. Building permits are not required (depending on the location and local regulations), which significantly speeds up and simplifies the process of setting up storage.
Advantages of Feed Storage in a Shipping Container
- Durability: Strong steel construction protects against weather and unwanted visitors.
- Tightness: Protection against moisture and pests.
- Security: Possibility of locking with a quality lock.
- Mobility: Easy relocation as needed.
- Speed: Immediate usability without complex construction.
- Economy: Lower acquisition and operating costs compared to building a traditional storage facility.
- Variability: Can be used as primary or supplementary storage, depending on current needs.
What Can Be Stored in the Container
In addition to feed itself, you can also store in the container:
- Tools and equipment for feed handling
- Empty bags, packaging, vacuum bags
- Buckets, barrels, feed containers
- Additional supplies for animals
Storage spaces can be further customized – use shelves, shelving, hanging systems or boxes for better organization.
How Much Fits in a 20-foot Container?
A standard 20-foot shipping container has an internal volume of approximately 33 m³ and usable floor area of around 14 m². In such a space you can easily store, for example:
- Approximately 400–500 bales of hay (small square)
- Dozens of bags with granulated feed (depending on package size)
- Several tons of grain in bags or big bags
- A combination of multiple types of feed along with accessories
A great tip is to use shelving systems or cleverly arrange bags and bales to maximize space utilization.
Recommendations and Practical Tips
- Check the container condition: Before use, make sure the floor is in good condition, doors seal properly and there are no significant signs of corrosion.
- Ensure ventilation: For feed storage, we recommend installing simple ventilation openings or grilles.
- Regularly check the contents: Especially with hay and straw, monitor moisture and possible mold formation.
- Label the storage: For better clarity, we recommend labeling the container with information about the stored material.
Ideas for Further Use
If you eventually reduce feed storage, the container can also be used for storing machinery, garden tools, equipment, building materials or seasonal supplies. Thanks to its versatility, a decommissioned shipping container is a long-term practical helper on every farm or estate.
