Use of the shipping container for storage in shipyards

Shipping containers have become an indispensable part of logistics and storage in many industries, including shipyards. Their use in this sector offers a number of advantages that make containers a popular solution for storing spare parts, tools and equipment.

Advantages of storage in shipping containers

Containers are characterised by their high weather resistance, durability and mobility. These characteristics make them ideal storage units in shipyards where the items to be stored need to be protected from corrosion, moisture or dirt. Durable steel construction secures stored items, while lockable doors protect against unauthorised access.

Another important advantage is flexibility – containers can be easily moved according to current needs, a big advantage in shipyards where working conditions change frequently.

What can be stored?

Containers are often used in shipyards. They can be used for storage:

  • Ship spare parts formarine equipment,
  • tools and equipment,
  • tools, tools, toolsand equipment, chemicals and lubricants that need to be protected from the environment,
  • protective equipment for workers,
  • materials and supplies for ship maintenanceand repair.

Thanks to their spaciousness, containers can also accommodate larger items such as marine engines or bulky equipment.

How much can you fit in a 40 foot high cube container?

Tall cube containers are popular because of their increased height, which allows more material or larger items to be stored. A 40-foot high cube container has a capacity of approximately 76 cubic yards and can hold up to 25-30 standard euro pallets. This capacity makes it an ideal solution for shipyards where space needs to be used efficiently.

For whom and where?

Storage containers for shipyards are particularly appreciated:

  • Shipyards and marinas looking for flexible storage solutions,
  • Service and repair companies who need to keep their tools and equipment easily accessible,
  • Shipbuilders who need to store materials and parts during production,
  • ship operators who want to store spare parts and supplies safely in port.

In terms of location, the containers can be used either directly in the port or close to the port. Thanks to their mobility, they can be moved as required, ensuring maximum efficiency.

Other uses of containers in shipyards

In addition to conventional storage, shipping containers can also be used in other ways in shipyards. Other possibilities include

  • Mobile workshops – a container can be convertedinto a fully equipped workshop for ship repair and maintenance,
  • Offices – thanks to insulation and conversions, containers can be used as offices for shipyard staff,
  • facilities for workers – e.g. changing rooms, toilets or storage of protective equipment,
  • Temporary storage – forseasonal equipment or materials that are not needed permanently,
  • technical facilities –for the installation ofgenerators, sewage treatment plants or other equipment.

Inspiration for creative applications

Containers offer countless possibilities for customisation. For example, in shipyards, they can be equipped with special shelving systems for better organisation, ventilation systems to protect against humidity or insulation for storing temperature-sensitive materials.

In addition, containers can be painted to match the shipyard environment and thus adapted to specific operational requirements.

Shipping containers are a versatile and practical solution for shipyard storage. Their durability, spaciousness and adaptability make them an indispensable part of daily operations. Whether you need to store spare parts, tools or chemicals, containers are an efficient and safe solution. Use them to their full potential and adapt them to your needs – the possibilities are almost endless!
