Looking for an affordable and reliable storage solution for your mining open-air museum? A decommissioned shipping container sized 20 feet (6 meters) in AS IS 2 condition offers a surprisingly good state and wide possibilities of use. We will deliver this old shipping container in good condition throughout the Czech Republic, with free shipping after meeting the conditions listed below!

Dimensions, Load Capacity and Volume of the 6m Container

Each 20-foot shipping container has precisely defined dimensions, thanks to which it is easily transported and placed. The length is 6,058 mm, the width is 2,438 mm, and the height is 2,591 mm. The interior space reaches a volume of approximately 33 cubic meters, which means plenty of space for systematic storage. The maximum load capacity is around 28 tons of gross weight, the tare weight of the empty container is approximately 2.3 tons – the net load capacity therefore usually exceeds 25 tons. Thanks to the robust steel construction, it withstands not only weight but also adverse weather. The dimensions are indicative and may always vary slightly by manufacturer.

Decommissioned Quality AS IS 2 – What to Expect?

The designation AS IS (“as is, where is”) means that the container has been retired from maritime transport and is sold in its current condition without extensive repairs. The AS IS 2 category, however, represents a very decent condition for a decommissioned container. You can expect minor abrasions, a few scratches, or slight surface corrosion, but the construction remains intact, the doors work perfectly, and the floor is solid. For storage purposes of mining open-air museums, this condition is absolutely sufficient – you don’t have to worry about leaks or loss of functionality.

Use of the Old Shipping Container for Mining Open-Air Museums

Mining open-air museums bring together technical monuments, tools, exhibits, and facilities for visitors and staff. You need safe, lockable, and dry storage spaces directly on the premises. A 20-foot old shipping container in good condition meets these requirements excellently, and moreover, it has an authentically industrial look, so it does not disturb the atmosphere of the mining environment. Inside, a wide range of items can be stored, from small consumable materials to heavy equipment. Its interior volume reliably accommodates equipment, tools, items for visitors, employees, maintenance material, and sales assortment.

Storage of Equipment and Tools

In a 20-foot container, you can easily place all exhibits that are not currently on display – historical mining lamps, helmets, maps, rock samples, measuring instruments, and replicas of mining equipment. Heavy metal tools such as pickaxes, shovels, chisels, or shackles can be neatly laid out on shelving systems. Thanks to a load capacity of over 25 tons, you don’t have to limit the composition by weight, only by volume. If you use shelves reaching up to the ceiling, you will gain valuable extra meters and everything will stay organized.

Storage for Visitors

You will also appreciate the old shipping container as a facility for visitor services. You can store information boards, printed guides, maps, souvenirs, promotional materials, or seasonal decorations in it. In summer, you can store sun umbrellas or benches here, in winter, snow blowers or grit material. Selected shelves can be reserved for safety equipment (helmets, reflective vests) that you lend to visitors during gallery tours. Thanks to secure locking with double-wing doors, you don’t have to worry about theft of equipment.

Storage for Employees and Guides

The staff of the mining open-air museum needs their own space for personal belongings, uniforms, work clothes, and footwear. In the container, you can create a changing room corner with coat hooks, benches, and lockable cabinets. You can also place small equipment here – radios, flashlights, spare batteries, writing utensils, and administrative supplies for guides. With sufficient space, a separate zone can serve as a facility for a short break with thermos flasks and a first aid kit.

Storage for Site Maintenance

The operation of the open-air museum cannot do without ongoing maintenance. In a 20-foot container, you will find space for tools of all kinds – from drills, grinders, chainsaws, to ladders, extension cables, pressure washers, or canisters with fuels. The wooden floor of the container is sufficiently durable and thanks to the all-metal walls, you can store even slightly soiled items without risk of leakage. All chemical preparations, paints, or oils should be placed in closed containers and labeled compartments, which the container easily allows.

Storage of Goods for Sale and Merchandising

If you have a sales stand or an e-shop with gift items on the premises, use the old shipping container as a central warehouse. T-shirts, mugs, postcards, minerals, mining souvenirs – all of this will fit in neat boxes on pallets. With a volume of about 33 m³, count on the fact that in one row of pallets (EUR pallet 120 × 80 cm), 10 pallets fit lengthwise in the container, and if you stack them in two layers, you get storage space for up to 20 pallets. With a height of approximately 2.4 meters, there is enough space for light shelves above the pallets. All items thus remain protected from dust, moisture, and unauthorized access.

What Fits in a 20-Foot Container – A Practical Overview

Imagine a space the size of a small garage. You can easily place in it:

  • Up to 10 full EUR pallets (if not too high),
  • Hundreds of boxes with small exhibits,
  • Robust shelving systems with several shelves,
  • Long tools (rods, strips) along the walls,
  • Mobile lockable cabinets for valuables,
  • Hanging systems on walls for lighter items.

The volume of 33 m³ means that with efficient use of shelves, you can store up to twice the floor area. The container thus functions as a storage unit with logistical potential, where everything has its fixed place.

Limitation: The Container Is Not Intended for Conversions

It should be emphasized that the decommissioned AS IS 2 quality is not suitable for major structural modifications. Disturbing the load-bearing structure (cutting out windows, gates, joining multiple containers) could endanger the statics and resistance to weather conditions. We therefore recommend this old shipping container as a pure storage unit, not as a basis for residential or sales booths. It will best fulfill its purpose where a lockable and durable mobile warehouse is needed.

Transport Throughout the Czech Republic

Delivery of the container throughout the Czech Republic can be arranged free of charge. If you order two pieces of standard sizes 8′, 10′, or 20′ at the same time, or one piece of size 40′ or 45′, we offer transport completely free of charge – however, it applies only to containers in unmodified design and delivered to one destination. Transport of just one piece of container throughout the Czech Republic up to a size of 20′ is CZK 3,500 excl. VAT = CZK 4,235 incl. VAT. Outside the Czech Republic, we set the transport price individually according to the destination. To unload the container on your property, a crane is required, the provision of which is the responsibility of the customer. Loading at our depot is already included in the price of the container.

The old 20-foot shipping container in AS IS 2 condition represents a practical, cost-effective, and flexible solution for storing all the necessities of mining open-air museums. Its robust design protects property from the elements and thieves, while not disturbing the industrial character of the exhibition. Consider how many things you need to store daily – this container will become an inconspicuous but indispensable helper of your museum.
