The decommissioned 20-foot shipping container (approximately 6 meters long), marked as AS IS 10, is a robust steel or aluminum container that no longer meets the demanding conditions of maritime transport but still offers reliable protection and sufficient storage space on construction sites or in industrial areas. The AS IS 10 quality means that the container has signs of previous use but remains fully functional for storage purposes. Transport to Česká Třebová and elsewhere in the Czech Republic is free of charge if the conditions below are met!

Dimensions, load capacity, and volume of a 20-foot container

A standard 20-foot (6-meter) container has the following parameters:

  • External dimensions: length 6.06 m, width 2.44 m, height 2.59 m
  • Internal dimensions: length approx. 5.9 m, width 2.35 m, height 2.39 m
  • Volume: up to 33.2 m³
  • Load capacity: up to 25,000 kg
  • Empty container weight: approx. 2,300 kg

These dimensions allow for the safe storage of a large amount of equipment, tools, or materials, protected from the weather and unauthorized access. Dimensions are approximate and may vary slightly by manufacturer.

Use of a decommissioned container for surveyors on construction sites – practical storage of equipment and tools

A decommissioned shipping container is an ideal solution for surveyors who need a safe, spacious, and flexible base directly on the construction site. Thanks to its robust construction from steel, the container provides protection against moisture, dust, and adverse weather conditions, which is crucial for preserving sensitive measuring instruments and other surveying equipment.

Advantages of a decommissioned container

The main advantages of a decommissioned 20-foot container include high durability, long lifespan, and the possibility of reuse on construction sites. Containers that have reached the end of their life cycle in maritime transport are still fully functional for storage purposes. In addition, they can be quickly relocated as needed or temporarily placed near ongoing work.

What can be stored in the container

The container offers enough space to store the entire range of equipment that surveyors use on the construction site:

  • Surveying instruments: total stations, leveling instruments, GPS receivers, theodolites, and other precise measuring technologies.
  • Additional equipment: tripods, poles, prisms, leveling rods, control mirrors.
  • Tools: hand tools, cordless drills, protractors, hammers, screwdrivers.
  • Protective equipment: helmets, vests, gloves, safety glasses.
  • Consumables: marking sprays, pegs, tapes, cords, documentation, and maps.
  • Personal items of surveyors: backpacks, clothing, snacks, drinks, personal protective equipment.

By adding shelving or hanging systems, the interior space of the container can be adapted to specific needs and increase the clarity and accessibility of stored items.

Organization and security

Storage in a container provides not only protection from the weather but also a high level of security against theft. Massive lockable doors and the possibility of installing locks ensure that valuable equipment remains safe even on publicly accessible construction sites.

Thanks to well-thought-out organization, all equipment can always be in its place. Shelves, hooks, and boxes allow quick access to individual tools and measuring instruments, saving time during daily operations on the construction site.

How much fits into a 20-foot container

A standard 20-foot container has internal dimensions of approximately 5.9 m in length, 2.35 m in width, and 2.39 m in height, representing a volume of over 33 m³. This space can easily accommodate complete surveying equipment for several workers, including measuring instruments, tools, spare parts, work equipment, and personal items. By using shelving systems, the capacity can be further increased and items can be arranged as clearly and accessibly as possible.

Recommendations for storing surveying equipment

  • Maintain order: Divide equipment by type and purpose, use boxes or labeled shelves.
  • Protect sensitive equipment: Place measuring instruments in lockable cabinets or boxes with padding against shocks.
  • Ensure ventilation: For long-term storage, we recommend providing ventilation openings to prevent moisture from condensing inside.
  • Regularly check the condition of the equipment: A clear warehouse allows for quick inventory and minimizes the risk of loss or damage.

A decommissioned 20-foot container is an excellent choice for any surveyor who needs an efficient, safe, and spacious base on the construction site. It will not only ensure perfect protection of equipment and tools but also offer the possibility of quick relocation and simple modification of the interior equipment according to current needs. Take full advantage of its potential and get a reliable warehouse that you can rely on at any time.
