Are you looking for a practical and original solution for storing garden tools, fertilizers or seasonal equipment? A decommissioned 20 ft (6 m) shipping container may be the perfect solution for you. It not only offers enough space for all your needs, but also gives you the opportunity to create a green oasis in the form of a roof garden on its top.

A decommissioned shipping container is a practical, durable and universal solution for storing your belongings and at the same time offers creative possibilities of use, such as a roof garden. If you are looking for a way to use the space on your property efficiently and give it a unique character, a container is the right choice.

Standard dimensions and load capacity

The 20 ft shipping container is one of the most widely used types of containers in the transport industry. Its standard external dimensions are:

  • Length: 6.06 m
  • Width: 2.44 m
  • Height: 2.59 m

The internal space provides a volume of approximately 33 cubic metres, which guarantees enough room to store all your garden equipment. The container’s load capacity is designed to carry up to 28 tonnes of cargo, so you do not have to worry even about heavier items.

Storage space in your garden

Using a decommissioned shipping container as a garden store is not only practical, but also an environmentally friendly solution. The robust construction guarantees resistance to weather conditions and protects your belongings from adverse conditions as well as unwanted visitors.

Advantages of using a container as a garden store:

  • Spaciousness: Enables storage of everything from garden tools, fertilizers and seasonal equipment to larger machines such as lawn mowers or tillers.
  • Security: The solid steel structure protects stored items against theft and damage.
  • Mobility: If necessary, the container can be moved to another place on the property or transported elsewhere.
  • Durability: Designed for maritime transport, so it withstands corrosion, wind, rain and snow.

Roof garden: Make full use of the space

One of the most interesting ways to make maximum use of a shipping container is to turn its roof into a roof garden or bed. This way you gain additional space for growing plants, herbs or flowers without taking up space on the ground.

How to do it:

  1. Roof insulation: Before starting the garden, it is important to properly insulate the container roof and protect it against water seepage.
  2. Creating the bed: Place raised beds or planters on the insulated roof to allow proper drainage and protect the roof from excessive load.
  3. Choosing plants: Choose plants with a shallow root system and low maintenance requirements. Succulents, herbs or low ornamental grasses are ideal.
  4. Access: Ensure safe access to the roof using a staircase or ladder, with safety in mind.

By creating a roof garden, you will not only aesthetically enrich your space, but also contribute to improving the microclimate around the house and support biodiversity.

Important information about collection and transport

  • Self-collection: The container is stored in a depot in Italy – Trieste. After closing the deal, you will receive all necessary information for collection from the container terminal.
  • Transport not included in the price: The customer must arrange transport of the container at their own expense, as well as unloading at the destination.
  • Multiple units in stock: We have several containers of the same quality, type and size in stock at the depot. You may receive a different unit than the one shown in the picture.
  • Colour not guaranteed: The colour of the delivered container may differ.
  • Limited access to the depot: For safety reasons, customers are not allowed access to the depot to inspect the container.

Why choose a decommissioned shipping container?

  • Environmentally friendly choice: You give the container a second life and thus reduce the environmental burden.
  • Economical solution: The acquisition costs are often lower compared to the construction of traditional buildings.
  • Universal use: Besides a garden store, the container can be used as a workshop, garage, storage space for business or as a base for building a container house.
