Do you need a reliable and secure space for storing materials, equipment or goods? A decommissioned 20ft (approx. 6 metres) shipping container in AS IS 2 quality offers practical use as a storage unit not only for a stationery shop, but also for many other sectors. The container is intended primarily for storage, it is not suitable for construction modifications or conversions into residential or other special-purpose units. Transport of the container to Tišnov and elsewhere within the Czech Republic is free of charge if the conditions below are met.

Dimensions, payload and volume of a 20ft container

A 20ft (6 m) shipping container is one of the most widely used types for both storage and transport. Its standard dimensions are:

  • Length: 6.06 m
  • Width: 2.44 m
  • Height: 2.59 m
  • Internal volume: approximately 33 m³
  • Payload: up to 28,000 kg (depending on specific design and condition)

Such a space offers sufficient room for storing various goods, raw materials, tools and equipment. A robust steel structure protects the contents against weather conditions and unauthorised access. The dimensions are approximate and may vary slightly depending on the manufacturer.

Use of a decommissioned shipping container for storage in a stationery shop

A decommissioned shipping container that no longer serves its original purpose in maritime transport can, thanks to its robustness and volume, be widely used as a storage space. In particular, a stationery shop, where it is necessary to store a wide range of different products, raw materials and equipment, can use this type of container efficiently.

Advantages of storage in a shipping container

Shipping containers are designed for maximum resistance to weather effects, ensuring that your stock and equipment remain protected against rain, snow and strong winds. Thanks to the solid steel walls, the container is protected against unauthorised entry and at the same time allows flexible use of the interior space. Using a decommissioned container is also an environmentally friendly solution which prolongs the life cycle of materials and reduces the burden on the planet.

What can be stored for a stationery shop

A stationery shop requires storage of a wide spectrum of items – from regular office supplies and school materials to specialised products. In the container you can safely store, for example:

  • Products for direct sale: notebooks, pads, diaries, writing instruments, envelopes, papers of various formats, coloured paper, glues, scissors, crayons, markers and other school and office supplies.
  • Raw materials for production: paper rolls, cardboard, corrugated board, packaging materials, labels, stickers and other consumables.
  • Equipment and tools: cutters, printers, packing machines, shredders, shelving, containers for waste sorting, work tables, chairs and other equipment necessary for the daily operation of a stationery shop.
  • Maintenance items: cleaning agents, tools for minor repairs, spare parts for machines, light bulbs, extension cords and other small items.
  • Seasonal goods and stock: Christmas or Easter ranges, wrapping paper, gift bags, seasonal decorations that take up space in the shop only for part of the year.

Layout options and efficient use of space

The internal space of the container can be fitted with shelving systems, racks or mobile containers, which will make the stock easier to organise and access. For a stationery shop, it is important to separate products intended for sale from raw material stock or maintenance supplies – the container allows this through simple internal partitioning.

Thanks to its mobility, the container can be placed on the shop premises or in a suitable parking area. It can be relocated, for example, during shop refurbishment or when there is a need to move the storage area closer to current operations.

How much fits into a 20ft shipping container?

A standard 20ft container offers an internal length of approximately 5.9 metres, a width of 2.35 metres and a height of 2.39 metres. This represents a volume of around 33 m³. Into such a space you can store, for example:

  • hundreds of cardboard boxes with products,
  • several dozen metres of shelving systems,
  • a complete seasonal range,
  • paper and raw material stock for several months of operation,
  • or larger machines and equipment for running a stationery shop.

Efficient layout inside the container will allow you to use every centimetre – from floor to ceiling.

Practical storage tips

Before placing goods inside, it is advisable to equip the container with shelves and check the tightness of the doors. It is recommended to ventilate regularly and check the condition of stored items to prevent moisture condensation. Storing heavier items in the lower sections and lighter ones on shelves will increase handling safety. For easier orientation, simple battery-powered LED lighting can be added to the container.

When is a decommissioned container suitable?

A decommissioned shipping container is no longer ideal for major structural modifications or residential conversions, but it still serves very well as a secure and spacious storage unit. It is an ideal choice where you need a flexible, quickly available and economical storage solution.

A decommissioned shipping container represents a smart storage solution for a stationery shop – it saves space in the retail area, protects goods and equipment from weather and theft, and allows you to keep everything you need close at hand. With minimal maintenance requirements and maximum interior variability, investing in a container storage unit is a step that every stationery shop owner who seeks reliable and practical storage facilities will appreciate.
