Dimensions, load capacity and volume of a 20-foot container
A standard 20-foot shipping container has dimensions of approximately 6,058 mm (length) x 2,438 mm (width) x 2,591 mm (height). The internal dimensions are approximately 5,900 mm x 2,350 mm x 2,390 mm, providing a volume of up to 33 m³. The load capacity of the container is usually around 28 tons, which allows safe storage of even heavier equipment. Dimensions are indicative and may always vary slightly depending on the manufacturer. Thanks to the international standard of dimensions, handling and transport of the container is very easy.
Decommissioned construction container as an ideal warehouse for tourist groups
A decommissioned construction container represents an affordable yet extremely practical storage solution for tourist groups. Thanks to its robust construction, it can withstand even harsh outdoor conditions and offers a universal space for everything you need to have on hand in the group. In this section, we will look at the specific benefits, storage options and ideas on how a 20-foot container can be used to the maximum in a tourist group.
Benefits of storage in a decommissioned container
The biggest advantage of a decommissioned construction container is its resistance to weather conditions, safety and long service life. Containers are originally designed to transport goods across oceans, so they reliably protect stored equipment against moisture, dust and unwanted visitors. Additional door security allows locking and a high degree of protection against theft.
Another advantage is their flexibility – the container can be easily moved according to the current needs of the group. Whether you put it in a camp, base or forest hut, you always get a safe and spacious warehouse.
What can be stored in the container
The interior space of a 20-foot container (approx. 33 m³) allows you to store a really wide range of equipment that tourist groups use throughout the year. Most often stored here are:
- Tents and bases – a large number of tent structures, tarpaulins and floorings can find a safe haven in the container out of season.
- Sleeping bags, sleeping mats and blankets – protected from moisture and pests.
- Tourist and sports equipment – backpacks, ropes, climbing equipment, balls, bats, goals and other sports equipment.
- Kitchen equipment – mess kits, gas cookers, canisters, kettles or grills.
- Tools for site maintenance – axes, saws, shovels, rakes, wheelbarrows, brush cutters, hand and power tools.
- Building material – boards, planks, nails, screws, paints, ropes and cords.
- Protective equipment – helmets, vests, work gloves, raincoats.
- Things for group members – personal lockers, storage of valuables during events, lost and found.
Storage of equipment and tools
Thanks to the high ceiling (usually around 2.4 m), it is possible to build shelving systems or hang shelves in the container. This creates a clear and organized warehouse where every item has its place – from the smallest screwdriver to bulky tents or canoes. A separate section can be reserved for tools, where axes, saws, rakes or motorized machines will be safely stored, thus preventing their loss or damage.
Storage for site maintenance
Sites, camps or bases require regular maintenance. The container becomes a center where all the necessary equipment is together – from building materials to protective work equipment. This makes it possible to quickly respond to any needs related to the group’s facilities.
Storage of things for group members
The container can also serve as a storage room for personal belongings of members during events or camps. Each participant can have their own lockable locker or box, where they can safely store important items. The group thus gains not only a warehouse, but also a basic dressing room or facilities for new members.
What are the possibilities and how much can fit into a 20-foot container?
A standard 20-foot container has dimensions of approximately 6 x 2.4 x 2.4 meters and a volume of over 33
cubic meters. This means that:
- You can store up to several dozen tents, hundreds of sleeping bags, complete kitchen equipment and tools for the entire base.
- If you use shelves and racks, you maximize storage space and easily separate different types of equipment.
- There is enough space for seasonal changes – summer sports equipment can be replaced with skis, bobsleds or skates in the fall.
A decommissioned construction container is a versatile and safe solution for every tourist group. It offers enough space for storing equipment, tools and personal belongings of members, protects everything from the weather and theft, and easily adapts to the current needs of the group. If you are considering efficient and long-term storage, a container is an ideal choice that will take your group’s facilities to a new level.
