Technical parameters – dimensions, load capacity, and volume of a 20-foot container

Containers of length 20 feet (approx. 6 meters) are among the most used types for storage and cargo transport. Their standard dimensions are:

  • Internal length: 5.9 m
  • Internal width: 2.35 m
  • Internal height: 2.39 m
  • Volume: 33.2 m³
  • Useful weight: up to 25,000 kg

These parameters guarantee enough space for storing a wide assortment of materials, tools, and finished products. The dimensions are indicative and may always slightly differ depending on the manufacturer.

Decommissioned container as an ideal warehouse for ceramics

Decommissioned shipping containers are an increasingly popular solution for storage in a number of industries – and ceramics are no exception. A container after the end of its transport service offers an exceptionally durable, safe, and flexible space that can be easily placed directly in the area of a ceramic workshop, garden, yard, or even in an open space. Thanks to the robust steel construction, the container is protected against weather conditions, humidity, and thieves, which is essential when storing valuable ceramic materials and finished products.

What all can you store in a container

A 20-foot (approx. 6-meter) container offers an internal space of around 33 cubic meters, making it an ideal warehouse for a wide range of ceramic needs:

  • Storage of raw materials: Clay, glazes, dyes, plaster, molds, and other raw materials are protected in the container from rain and direct sunlight.
  • Tools and equipment: Pottery wheels, modeling tools, molds, kilns, or electric and hand tools will find a safe place in the container away from the main workshop.
  • Finished products: The container is also great for storing finished products before shipment or a sales event, whether it’s small ceramics, plates, figurines, or large pieces.
  • Maintenance needs and materials for the area: Axes, rakes, paints, cleaning agents, and spare parts can be elegantly stored in one place.
  • Goods for sale: If you organize ceramic markets, workshops, or sales days, you can safely store goods intended for sale to customers in the container.

Advantages of using a decommissioned container

In addition to basic protection from the weather, the decommissioned container also offers other significant benefits:

  • Flexibility: The container can be moved whenever you need to change the layout of the area.
  • Ecological dimension: You are giving new life to a robust product that would otherwise remain unused.
  • Safety: Solid metal doors and the possibility of locking will protect your equipment from theft.
  • Easy maintenance: The steel construction is easy to maintain and repair if necessary.

How to effectively use the space of a 20-foot container

The internal dimensions of the container (approximately 5.9 × 2.35 × 2.39 m) allow for a very variable arrangement. To maximize storage capacity, we recommend using shelves, racks, or hanging systems. One 20-foot container can fit, with good layout:

  • several pallets of materials,
  • up to several dozen boxes of products,
  • a table and shelves for tools,
  • space for storing a kiln or other larger equipment.

The ceiling part can also be used to hang lighter objects or seasonal goods.

Inspiration and tips for setting up a ceramic warehouse in a container

  • Zones: Divide the container space into zones – separate raw materials, equipment, finished products, maintenance, and goods for sale.
  • Handling: For easy movement inside, we recommend leaving at least one meter of free space in the aisle.
  • Mobility: If you plan to move things around, equip the container with mobile shelves or pallets on wheels.

A decommissioned shipping container is a practical and economical solution for anyone looking for a safe, flexible, and spacious warehouse for ceramic production. Whether you need to store materials, tools, products, or equipment for customers, the container offers ideal conditions and wide possibilities of use. Create your own ceramic warehouse exactly according to your needs – adapt the space, equipment, and method of storage and get the most out of every square meter!
