Use of decommissioned construction containers for storage in construction warehouse halls
Decommissioned construction containers, which are no longer suitable for conversions or structural modifications, represent an ideal and cost‑effective solution for storage in construction warehouse halls. Their robust construction, mobility and versatility enable efficient protection and storage of everything needed on a site – from materials to employee equipment.
Advantages of storage in a decommissioned construction container
The main benefits are safety, mobility and space saving. Containers are designed to withstand weather conditions and mechanical damage. Thanks to sturdy grilles and lockable doors they provide a high level of protection against theft, which insurers also appreciate. A standard 20‑foot container (approx. 6 × 2.4 m) offers ample space and can be easily moved according to current site needs with a crane or a forklift.
What can be stored in a decommissioned container
The possibilities for container storage are almost unlimited. In a construction warehouse hall you can store:
- Construction material – bricks, concrete blocks, drywall, insulation, pallets of cement, paints or waterproofing membranes.
- Construction parts and components – metal profiles, beams, fasteners, screws, nails, cables and other small parts.
- Tools and machinery – from hand tools to power tools, concrete mixers, grinders, saws, compressors, ladders, scaffolding and small equipment.
- Chemicals and maintenance supplies – paints, varnishes, thinners, cleaning and lubricating agents, oils, etc.
- Employee equipment – work clothing and protective gear, lockable lockers, portable toilets, small facilities.
The interior can be individually adapted – adding shelves, racks, hooks for hanging tools or designating space for special storage of more sensitive material.
Storage of materials and parts – quick overview of options
A container allows safe storage of bulky construction materials that are unsuitable for exposure to the open air. The interior is protected from rain, dust and sun, extending the lifespan of materials and minimizing losses. Parts needed for a particular construction phase are always at hand in one place. Organized layout also speeds up handling, inventory and material issuance.
Storage of tools, equipment and maintenance supplies
Tools and maintenance supplies are often targets of theft on construction sites – a lockable container effectively prevents this. It also protects tools from weather and prolongs their lifespan. By installing internal fittings (hooks, shelves, lockers) the space can be maximized and order maintained.
Space for employees and their needs
Besides material and equipment storage, part of the container can be allocated as employee facilities – for storing personal items, work shoes and clothing, or even for short rest breaks or shelter in adverse weather. Such a solution increases work comfort on the site and simplifies organization.
How much fits into a 20‑foot container?
A standard 20‑foot container offers a volume of approximately 33 m³ and a load capacity of up to 22 tonnes. This means one container can comfortably hold, for example:
- Pallets of bricks, bags of cement, several concrete mixers and racks of tools simultaneously.
- All equipment for a smaller warehouse hall, including material for several weeks of work.
- A combination of larger machines, small‑size material, protective gear and a dedicated area for employees.
With this capacity, planning supplies and logistics on a construction site becomes highly efficient.
Decommissioned construction containers, even though they are no longer suitable for further structural modifications, become indispensable helpers for storage on construction warehouse halls. Their main strengths are safety, rapid installation, mobility and wide range of uses. Investing in such a container significantly increases efficiency and safety on any construction project.
