Dimensions, load capacity and volume of a 20-foot container

A 20-foot (approx. 6-meter) container offers standard dimensions:

  • length: 6.06 m
  • width: 2.44 m
  • height: 2.59 m
  • internal volume: approximately 33 m³
  • maximum load capacity: up to 24,000 kg

Thanks to these parameters, a 20-foot container provides enough space for storing a wide range of equipment, materials or goods, while being easy to handle. The dimensions are approximate and may always vary slightly depending on the manufacturer.

Storage for outdoor theaters – using a decommissioned shipping container

Outdoor theaters often face specific logistical challenges, such as the safe and clear storage of equipment, tools or materials for site maintenance. This is where decommissioned shipping containers come into their own, offering a number of practical advantages and possibilities for efficient use.

Advantages of storage in a decommissioned container

Decommissioned shipping containers are robust, strong and resistant to weather conditions. As a result, they provide high protection for stored items from rain, snow and sunlight. Their closability ensures the safety of equipment against theft and unauthorized access. Another advantage is mobility – the container can be moved to another location in the area if needed.

What can be stored

Storage options are virtually unlimited. The container can accommodate all the technical equipment that an outdoor theater needs – from stage sets, props and costumes, to sound and lighting equipment and small tools for site maintenance. Folding chairs, benches, tables, tents or advertising banners can also find their place here.

Storage of equipment and tools

In theater operations, it is crucial to have all equipment at hand and safely stored. The container allows you to clearly divide the space, for example, using shelves, racks or hanging systems. For storing sound and lighting equipment, you can use the dry and dark environment of the container, which protects sensitive equipment from moisture and dust. Tools needed for building and maintaining the stage can be kept together and always ready for use.

Storage for employees and sales

The container also serves as a storage facility for employees – from storing work clothes and protective equipment to small refreshments or cleaning supplies. It can also be used to store goods for sale during performances, such as programs, small souvenirs or refreshments that need to be kept dry and safe.

Modification and arrangement options

Although a decommissioned container is no longer suitable for extensive structural modifications or interventions (for example, to create additional windows or doors), it can be internally arranged according to needs. Simply add shelves, boxes, hooks or racks that maximize usable space and make it easier to find your way around stored items.

How much fits in a 20-foot container?

A standard 20-foot container (6 meters long, 2.4 meters wide and 2.6 meters high) offers an internal volume of approximately 33 cubic meters. This means that it can comfortably accommodate, for example:

  • complete stage technology for one performance
  • several dozen folding chairs or benches
  • dozens of boxes with props and costumes
  • small tools, spare parts and maintenance material
  • supplies of refreshments or merchandising for the entire season

In practice, the space can be divided into several zones according to the type of stored material, which ensures clarity and quick access to everything needed.

Practical solution for outdoor theaters

Decommissioned shipping containers represent an affordable, safe and flexible storage solution for outdoor theaters. They offer protection, mobility and enough space for all operational needs. Just place them in a suitable location in the area, equip them with internal divisions according to your own needs and take full advantage of their potential – from storing equipment, through facilities for employees, to preparing goods for sale during theater evenings.
