Dimensions and capacity of a 20-foot container

A container with a length of 20 feet, or approximately 6 meters, offers practical dimensions and sufficient capacity. Its internal length is 5.9 meters, width 2.35 meters and height 2.39 meters. The total volume thus reaches 33.2 m³, which allows for the storage of a larger amount of materials, tools or other items. The container’s load capacity is a respectable 25,000 kg, which guarantees safe storage even for heavier items. Dimensions are approximate and may always vary slightly depending on the manufacturer.

Using a Decommissioned Container for Collection Yards: A Practical Solution for Waste Storage and Sorting

Decommissioned shipping containers, which no longer serve their original purpose in maritime transport, are gaining increasing popularity in the field of waste storage and sorting. In particular, collection yards are using this practical and ecological method to optimize their operation. Thanks to their robust construction and versatility, containers are becoming an indispensable tool for improving efficiency and organization. What are their advantages and uses?

Advantages of containers in collection yards

Using a decommissioned container in a collection yard environment offers a number of advantages. It is an economically affordable solution that is also resistant to external influences. Shipping containers are made of solid steel, which guarantees their long life and ability to withstand demanding conditions such as adverse weather, humidity or mechanical load.

Another advantage is their mobility. Containers can be easily moved using cranes or forklifts, allowing their location to be flexibly changed according to the current needs of the collection yard. In addition, containers are modular, which means they can be easily adapted to specific requirements – for example, by adding shelves, storage racks or ventilation openings.

What can be stored?

Collection yards can use containers for a wide range of storage purposes. The most common include:

  • storage of tools and equipment: Containers can serve as storage spaces for work tools and equipment, helping to maintain order and clarity in the workplace.
  • materials for site maintenance: Chemicals, cleaning agents or spare parts – all of this can be safely stored in a container.
  • seasonal storage: Containers can be ideal for storing seasonal materials such as bags of grit salt or garden equipment.
  • waste sorting: Individual sections can be created inside the container for different types of waste, making it easier to recycle them later.

Sorting space directly in the container

One of the biggest advantages of decommissioned containers is their use as sorting spaces. Shelves, boxes or partitions can be installed inside for easy separation of different types of materials – from plastics and paper to metal or glass. This makes it possible to improve organization and increase the efficiency of waste sorting. In addition, a lockable container prevents unwanted access to waste, which is advantageous from a safety and hygiene point of view.

How much fits into a 20-foot container?

A standard 20-foot shipping container offers a storage space of approximately 33 m³. This space can be used effectively, for example, to store hundreds of bags of recycled materials, several pallets of tools or dozens of large waste containers. By optimizing the interior space, the container can be adapted to almost any storage requirement.

Ecological and economic solution

The use of decommissioned containers is not only practical but also ecological. Instead of disposing of an old container, it is given a new purpose, minimizing waste and promoting sustainability. In addition, it is an investment that pays off quickly thanks to the long life of the container.

Decommissioned containers are an ideal solution for collection yards that want to improve their storage and sorting capacities. Thanks to their flexibility, durability and wide range of uses, they represent a modern and efficient way to optimize operations and contribute to environmental protection.
