Using a shipping container for outdoor pool storage

Outdoor swimming pools are where fun, relaxation and active leisure come together. However, the seasonal nature of these facilities brings with it special requirements for the storage of equipment, chemicals and other essential items. Shipping containers are an ideal solution because they are practical, durable and flexible.

Advantages of shipping containers for storage

Shipping containers offer a range of advantages that any outdoor pool will appreciate. They are extremely weatherproof, which is important when stored outdoors all year round. Thanks to their sturdy construction, they protect stored items from rain, sun, snow and cold. The containers are also protected from unauthorised access, ensuring the safety of valuable equipment.

Another important advantage is mobility. The container can be easily moved according to the current needs of the pool. For example, if the layout of the room changes, the container can simply be moved to another location.

What can be stored in the container?

A shipping container is suitable for storing a wide range of items that are essential to the operation of an outdoor pool. These include

  • seasonal equipment: sun loungers, parasols, inflatable swimming equipment, pool toys, floats or slides.
  • Chemicals and maintenance: pool chemicals, cleaning products, filter systems and tools for maintenance of the area.
  • Spare parts and technical equipment: pumps, pipes, filters, luminaires and other technical equipment.
  • Work equipment: tools, protective equipment and small office supplies.

How much can you fit in a 20-metre container?

A 20-metre container is the standard choice for most pools because of its compact yet spacious dimensions. This type of container has a capacity of around 33 cubic metres, which is equivalent to around 10 standard euro pallets. This space not only has room for all the pool’s seasonal equipment, but also for chemicals and other items you need without having to store things in different places.

Who is the container suitable for?

Container storage is an ideal option for public swimming pools, private pool complexes, water parks, as well as smaller leisure centres or campsites with a pool. Thanks to its versatility and easy accessibility, it can also be used by sports clubs or municipalities managing seasonal swimming pools.

Where should the container be placed?

A floating container can be placed practically anywhere where there is a flat and solid surface. The ideal location is close to the pool’s technical facilities, so that staff can easily access it. When placed in the visitor area, the container can be aesthetically integrated into the space with colour, tiles or decorative elements.

Other uses of shipping containers in swimming pools

In addition to storage, shipping containers have other interesting uses in outdoor pools. For example

  • Technical equipment: the container can be used as an engine room for pumps and filter systems.
  • Office or booth: A smaller container can easily be converted into an office or booth at the entrance.
  • A cloakroom or rest area: With minor modifications, the container can be used as a staff changing room or rest area.
  • Rest area: with suitable modifications, the container can be used as a rest area or bar.
  • Rescue station: the container can be converted into a first aid station or a base for rescue workers.

Creative ideas for container conversion.

Shipping containers are not only practical but also very flexible. With a little creativity, an ordinary container can be transformed into a unique pool feature. For example, colourful painting with water and swimming motifs can give a container an attractive appearance. Another option is to add a pergola or shelter and create a comfortable seating area around it.

For environmentally conscious sites, a ‘green roof’ can also be used, where the container is covered with plants, which improves its insulating properties and also helps to improve the microclimate of the site.

Shipping containers are a versatile and efficient solution for outdoor swimming pools. Thanks to their durability, spaciousness and versatility, they can be used in a variety of ways, from storage rooms to technical or recreational areas. What’s more, they can be easily adapted to the specific needs of each location. If you’re looking for a reliable way to improve the performance of your pool, a shipping container is the ideal choice.
