Hof – Germany Container Depot
HZ-Containers has the option of selling decommissioned ISO maritime containers stored in a professional container depot in Hof (Bavaria, Germany). Hof is located only 15–20 kilometres from the Czech border, directly at the intersection of the A9, A72 and A93 motorways. Thanks to this, our depot is exceptionally well accessible for Czech companies, tradespeople and individuals looking for quality decommissioned containers at fair prices. Customers pick up the container with their own transport – we make sure it is ready precisely at the agreed time.
Why buy decommissioned maritime containers
Strategic location within reach of the Czech Republic
Hof is located in Upper Franconia, in close proximity to the Czech-German border. The distance from Hof to Cheb is approximately 50 km, to Karlovy Vary 80 km and to Plzeň roughly 160 km. Three motorways – A9 (Berlin–Munich), A72 (Hof–Dresden) and A93 (Hof–Regensburg) – meet at Hof in the Hochfranken motorway triangle and the Bayerisches Vogtland motorway interchange.
For you as a customer, this means that the containers are stored in a professional environment with a solid surface, security and experienced staff. Loading is carried out using heavy cranes – the container is safely placed on your transport vehicle within a few minutes.
How to choose a quality decommissioned container – what to look for
What quality categories of decommissioned containers do we distinguish
Decommissioned maritime containers on the market are divided into several standardised categories. Each has its place depending on what you expect from the container:
| Category | Description | Typical age | Suitable use |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cargo Worthy (CW) | Certified for further maritime transport, meets CSC standards. | 8–15 years | Active transport, export, intermodal logistics |
| Wind & Water Tight (WWT) | Tight against wind and water, with visible signs of wear. | 10–15 years | Storage, construction sites, workshops, garages |
| AS-IS | Sold “as is”, without warranties. | Various | Projects, budget solutions, dismantling |
WWT is the ideal choice for the vast majority of our customers – you get a fully functional, watertight container that will reliably protect your property, at a price significantly lower than the Cargo Worthy category.

Prices of decommissioned maritime containers – indicative overview
What affects the price of a decommissioned container
The price of a decommissioned maritime container is determined by five main factors:
- Quality grade – Cargo Worthy is more expensive than WWT, AS-IS is the cheapest.
- Age – newer years of manufacture are priced higher, but the current technical condition is always decisive, not the year of manufacture itself.
- Size – a 40ft container costs more than a 20ft, but calculated per square metre of storage area it works out more favourably.
- Type – special containers (reefer, High Cube, construction) are more expensive than standard ones.
- Current market situation – steel prices, maritime transport and demand in the region continuously affect the price.

Frequently asked questions
Do you also offer new maritime containers, or only decommissioned ones?
We specialise in the sale of decommissioned maritime containers, which offer the best ratio of price and utility value. New (so-called One-Trip) containers can be arranged on request – please contact us.
What is the difference between a Cargo Worthy and a Wind & Water Tight container?
A Cargo Worthy (CW) container has passed a certified inspection and may continue to be used for maritime transport – it has a valid CSC plate. Wind & Water Tight (WWT) is tight against wind and water, but does not have certification for further maritime transport. For storage and construction use, WWT is absolutely sufficient.
Do you arrange transport of the container from Hof to the Czech Republic?
HZ-Containers does not arrange transport as standard.
How soon can I pick up the container after ordering?
After the payment is credited, the container is usually ready for pickup within 5 working days. The specific loading date will be agreed individually according to your time options and the depot’s operating hours.
Can containers from the Hof depot also be rented?
No, HZ-Containers exclusively sells containers. We do not offer rental. After purchase, the container becomes permanently your property.
