SIDE DOOR SHIPPING CONTAINER – the so-called side door (SD) is a classic type of storage container with side opening from the longer side. It is not only equipped with opening from one narrow side, but also from one or both longer sides of the container. This type of opening is required especially where it is necessary to put bulky goods. Or machines, cars and others, which cannot fit into the container by opening from the narrow side.

A storage container with side opening always has 1 door on the narrow side like a classic storage container and 1 door on the longer side of the container. Sometimes also called “Full side opening” or full opening of the side.

Alternatively, the container can have a side opening from both sides, a so-called double side door, denoted 2x SD or DSD. If the container has opening from all 4 sides – it is called full opening. That is, opening from all 4 sides. However, it can also be equipped with several fully openable entrances from the side, which is mainly used for dividing the load into sections or where an employee should only have access to a certain section of a shipping container, for example.

It is waterproof and also seals well so that the goods inside the container are not damaged during transport. They are easy to handle and can be easily placed on top of other containers. It is usually handled with the help of a forklift or a crane.

Primarily, the Side Door (SD) shipping container is sold in 20′ foot lengths. This type of container is equipped with one entrance from the narrow side with a lockable door. These ensure safety and protection against unauthorized access. Also one or both entrance from the longer side of the container are with lockable doors.
