A decommissioned maritime container of 20 ft size (6 m) offers an ideal solution for economical and safe storage. It is supplied in AS IS 5 condition, which means it no longer meets the requirements for sea transport, but it still provides ample space and strength for storing materials. Transport of the container to Přelouč and elsewhere in the Czech Republic is free after meeting the conditions below.

Dimensions of the 20‑ft container

  • Length: 6.06 m
  • Width: 2.44 m
  • Height: 2.59 m (standard height)
  • Load capacity: approximately 28 000 kg (depending on the specific unit and its condition)
  • Internal volume: approximately 33 m³

These parameters allow the storage of a very large amount of material and equipment even for demanding operations. Dimensions are indicative and may vary slightly according to the manufacturer.

Use of a decommissioned maritime container in floristry: efficient storage of material, equipment and tools

A decommissioned maritime container, often referred to as “AS IS”, represents an ideal choice for storage in floristry. Although it is no longer suitable for structural modifications or conversions, it retains its main advantages – durability, safety and a generous internal space. Because of these qualities it is an excellent solution for florists and flower shops that need ready‑to‑use storage for seasonal material, tools and equipment.

Advantages of using a container for floristry

One of the biggest strengths of a decommissioned container is its robustness. The steel construction protects stored items from weather, moisture and unauthorised access. The container is mobile, so it can be placed directly next to the workshop, in a garden or at a workshop site. Another benefit is its universal applicability – the interior can be easily divided with shelves, racks or boxes to create clear and efficient storage according to the current needs of the floristry business.

What can be stored in the container for floristry

In floristry a wide range of materials and tools must be stored. In a decommissioned maritime container you can easily keep:

  • Floral materials: pots, decorative chips, arranging media (e.g., oasis), wrapping papers, ribbons, wires, adhesive tapes, perlite, decorative stones, wicker baskets and seasonal decorations.
  • Equipment and accessories: vases, buckets, work tables, chairs, flower transport boxes, cooling boxes or small refrigerators for storing cut flowers.
  • Tools: garden shears, knives, pruners, spades, rakes, sprayers and small hand tools for plant care.
  • Maintenance supplies: cleaning agents, work gloves, protective gear, spare clothing or umbrellas.
  • Employee items: personal lockers, work clothing, protective equipment, consumables for the workplace (paper towels, cleaning wipes, etc.).

Capacity of a 20‑ft container

The most commonly used type for storage is the 20‑ft maritime container. Its internal dimensions are roughly 5.9 m long, 2.35 m wide and 2.39 m high, providing an internal volume of about 33 m³. For a floral workshop this means the possibility to store a truly large amount of material and equipment – for example, dozens of flower shipments, racks of decorative supplies, stackable boxes of tools, while still leaving space for a work table or employee lockers.

Thanks to the high floor load capacity (typically up to 25 tonnes) you can safely store heavier equipment or bulk bags of fertilizer and substrate. The wide entrance doors allow comfortable handling of larger items.

Safety and protection of stored items

Maritime containers were designed for ocean freight, so their construction guarantees a high level of security. The steel material resists moisture, wind and frost, which is essential for preserving the quality of stored floral supplies. The doors can be fitted with a security lock or other protective devices.

Organisation and easy layout

The interior of the container can be easily adapted to current needs. Using shelving systems or hanging hooks creates an orderly store where each item has its place. This increases the efficiency of the florist and the whole team – material is safely stored, quickly accessible and protected from damage.

A decommissioned maritime container is a practical, safe and readily available solution for storage in floristry. It allows you to keep everything needed—from materials to tools and employee equipment. Simple installation, minimal maintenance and high durability are why this storage method is becoming increasingly popular not only among florists but also in other sectors that require secure and tidy storage of various materials and tools.
