Using a shipping container as storage in the garden: efficient garden storage
Purpose and Benefits of Garden Container Storage
Using a container as garden storage is an increasingly popular solution for efficient and secure storage of garden tools, lawn mowers, and other garden equipment. Storage containers provide not only ample space but also protection from adverse weather conditions.
Customizability and Organization
One of the greatest advantages of storage containers is their customizability. Containers can be equipped with shelving systems and other accessories, allowing for maximum use of available space. This way, you can keep all your garden equipment organized and easily accessible. This solution is suitable for both home gardeners and professional landscapers.
Easy Assembly and Relocation
Storage containers are characterized by easy assembly and disassembly. This means you can quickly and easily set them up and, if needed, easily relocate them to another spot in your garden or on another property. This flexibility is a significant advantage, especially if you need storage space only for a specific period or for particular seasonal needs.
Protection and Security
Ensuring a safe and dry storage space for your garden equipment is crucial. Storage containers are robust and resistant to weather conditions, which means your garden tools and equipment are protected from rain, snow, and sunlight. Steel containers also provide a high level of security against theft due to single-wing doors with a security lock and 3-point locking system.
Durability and Long-Term Longevity
Garden storage containers are made from durable materials, such as steel profiles and trapezoidal sheets, which are galvanized and stainless. This material ensures a long lifespan for the containers, which are virtually maintenance-free. The container’s roof has a load capacity of 125 kg/m² and the floor, made of wooden beams and OSB boards, can withstand a load of 500 kg/m², ensuring strength and stability.
Versatility of Use
Storage containers are ideal for a wide range of users – from home gardeners and professional landscapers to community gardens and other similar uses. Due to their versatility and resistance to weather conditions, they provide a long-term and reliable solution for your garden storage needs.
Storing Garden Tools and Equipment
If you are looking for an effective and secure solution for storing your garden tools and equipment, storage containers are an ideal choice. They offer customizability, easy assembly and relocation, high durability, and versatility of use. These features make storage containers a perfect solution for garden storage.
Do I need any permits to place a container in my garden?
Are you planning to place a container in your garden and unsure if you need a building permit or notification?
Building Permit vs. Notification
When planning construction, whether it is a residential container, a construction unit, or another type of modular building, it is necessary to consider applicable legislative rules. In some cases, a building permit may be required, while in others, only a building notification is sufficient. (This refers to legislation valid in the Czech Republic. Each country may have different rules!)
Building Notification is less administratively demanding than a building permit. For notification, you need to provide:
- land ownership,
- zoning decision,
- project documentation,
- consents from persons with ownership rights or easements.
If everything complies with the requirements of the building authority, the authority will issue consent for the proposed building project within 30 days.
Building Permit is required for more complex and extensive projects and includes:
- plan for building inspections,
- binding opinions of authorities,
- keeping a construction diary,
- opinions of public transport and technical infrastructure owners.
Project documentation must be prepared by a qualified designer and stamped. However, this generally does not apply to placing a container in a garden if it concerns a smaller scope.
Buildings Without Permits or Notifications
The new building law, which came into effect in July 2024, brings significant changes. According to Act No. 183/2006 Coll., some small buildings up to 40 m² can be constructed without a building permit or notification. This applies to, for example, buildings up to 25 m² of floor area and up to 5 m in height with one above-ground floor, basement up to a maximum depth of 3 m. These buildings must comply with the zoning documentation, be located at least 2 m away from common property boundaries, and the area of the part of the property capable of absorbing rainwater after placement must be at least 50% of the total area of the family house or recreational building property.
Without notification, terrain modifications up to 1.5 m in height or depth with an area of up to 300 m² can also be carried out, provided they are not on properties that have a common boundary with public roads or public spaces.
Important Notice
It is important to note that for the possibility of placing a building up to 25 m² on your building plot, there must already be a family house or a recreational building on the given plot. Therefore, you cannot simply place a container on a meadow or in an orchard without the appropriate permit.
In Conclusion:
When planning to place a container in your garden, it is essential to familiarize yourself with the current legislation and determine if a building permit or notification is required. The new building law facilitates small buildings, but it is still important to comply with the established conditions.

At what distance is noise measured in dB for shipping refrigerated containers?
The question “At what distance is noise measured in dB for shipping containers?” does not have a single answer – it always depends on the measurement objective, the type of equipment and the standard used. The most common standards require measurements at a distance of 1 m (for containers and refrigeration units, EN ISO 3744:2010), 15 m (for heavy handling equipment in ports) or at the boundary of a noise-sensitive object (for assessing the impact on the community). The key is to always respect current legislation and technical standards and to take care to protect the health of residents and workers during design and operation.
Wind and Waterthight – what does it mean?
Welcome to a detailed glossary dedicated to one of the most important and often misunderstood terms in the shipping container industry: Wind and Watertight (WWT). If you are considering purchasing a used container, it is absolutely essential to know what this classification means in practice, what the limits of this class are, and how to differentiate it from other types of containers on the market.
How to fold a shipping container? Using ConFoot legs
The ConFoot stacking of shipping containers is an innovative way to safely and efficiently unload a standardized ISO container (10-45 feet) from a trailer or chassis without heavy handling equipment. Using a set of four special support legs (ConFoot), the container can be placed directly on the ground or at the ramp at the destination.
What does corrosion resistance C5 mean?
Corrosion resistance C5 denotes one of the highest categories of protection of steel structures against atmospheric corrosion, as defined by the international standard ISO 12944. This specification is intended for structures exposed to extremely aggressive conditions – industrial zones with high humidity and pollution, or coastal and marine areas with high salinity.
