FLAT RACK CONTAINER

A flat rack container is a specific type of shipping container that is designed to transport and handle cargo that cannot fit into a standard shipping container due to its size or unusual shape. Often also called a “platform”.

It has a standard open structure that consists of a solid steel frame structure. This construction is designed to provide strength and stability during handling and transportation.

Unlike standard storage containers, flat rack containers also have hinged or removable sides. These enable easy loading and unloading of cargo. These sides can be secured with locking mechanisms and are often equipped with posts to support the load during transport.

The flat rack container has solid and straight bottoms that allow easy placement on a marine vessel, rail or road. This type of container is usually equipped with longitudinal troughs or holes for the forks of the unloading equipment.

Sizes can vary as with other types of containers. Most commonly sold are the 20 FR container and 40 Flat rack containers. These sizes are standard for sea containers and allow easy integration of flat rack containers into the logistics chain.

They are often used to transport cargo that is excessively tall or cargo with a non-standard shape, such as pipes or heavy machinery. These containers allow easy and safe loading and unloading of such cargo.

Flat rack for bulky loads

The frame of the flat rack container is made of solid steel. It is usually U or C shaped and is designed to provide strength and stability to the container. Frame is usually welded and has special reinforcements in key places to ensure strength and durability.

The bottom part of the flat rack container is made of a solid steel plate, which provides a firm and flat surface for placing the container. The lower part may have holes or troughs for handling the forks of unloading equipment.

Flat rack containers are often equipped with locking mechanisms on the sides and end parts. This ensures a safe and secure connection of the container during transport.

Platform

Another type in the same category is called “Platform”. It is constructed without walls and ceiling, which provides an open and spacious space for cargo placement. There are also eyelets on the platform to secure the load and ensure its stability during transport.

However, there are also variants with a higher load capacity, for example “heavy duty” platforms, which can carry up to 36,000 kg per platform.

However, it is important to note that the maximum load capacity is related to the uniform distribution of the weight of the load over the entire surface of the platform. If the weight of the cargo is unevenly distributed or exceeds the permissible load capacity, it is necessary to carry out additional stabilization or transportation of the cargo in several containers.
