Discarded shipping containers as an ideal storage solution for the film industry.

Known for their durability and versatility, end-of-life shipping containers are increasingly being used in a variety of industries. One of these industries is the film industry, where they are becoming a practical and safe storage solution. Thanks to their durability, high density and compact size, they are an effective means of protecting equipment, tools and other materials needed during filming. Let’s take a look at the benefits of containers and what they can hold.

Advantages of containers for the film industry

There are many advantages to using discarded shipping containers in the film industry. First and foremost, they are a very safe storage medium. The steel construction of the containers is resistant to weathering, harsh environments and possible tampering attempts. Thanks to the possibility of locking them with a security lock, the containers offer protection against theft.

Another advantage is their water resistance. This means that the equipment and materials stored in them are protected from moisture, rain and dust. For film studios, which often work with expensive cameras, props or costumes, this feature is essential.

In addition, the containers are easy to move. Do you need on-site storage? Simply transport the container and place it where you need it. This mobility saves time and money, as you can store all your equipment directly on site.

What can be stored in a container?

The storage possibilities for shipping containers are almost limitless. In the film industry, for example, they can be used for the following purposes

  • Tools and equipment:Cameras, tripods, projectors, microphones and other technical equipment needed for filming.
  • Props and costumes.
  • For example, for the storage ofprops and props sets, cassettes, costumes, costume sets, etc: Wood, tar tiles, metal structures or other materials for building film sets.
  • Maintenance and repair: tools and spare parts for repair work in the studio.
  • Crew personal belongings:Rooms where film crews can safely store personal items, clothing or catering equipment.

In addition, each container can be customised according to individual needs. The interior can be complemented with shelves, hooks, racks or other storage elements to create an organised and efficient space.

How much can you fit in a 20-foot container?

One of the most popular storage models is the 20-foot container. This type has a capacity of approximately 33 cubic metres and can hold up to 25,000 kg of goods. This means you can easily store hundreds of pieces of equipment, props or materials.

For example, a 20-metre container can hold dozens of camera tripods, a complete lighting kit, hundreds of costumes and still leave plenty of room for tools or catering equipment. This makes it the ideal choice for film productions of all sizes – from small independent projects to big-budget productions.

Inspiration for efficient use of containers

Discarded shipping containers offer a wide range of customisation and conversion options. Here are some ideas on how they can be used directly in the film industry:

  • Mobile wardrobes. Mobile lockers can be used for mobile storage. Simply add hangers, mirrors and main lighting.
  • Just hang hanging clothes, hanging clothes racks, light fixtures, basic accessories, light shelves, lightfixtures and more.
  • Production office: with a little conversion, a container can be transformed into a production team office.
  • Archive: safe and dry storage of film cassettes, scripts or other important documents.
  • Creative area: the container can be transformed into a place for brainstorming or scene preparation.
