How and when to secure a crane for container folding?

After closing the order and subsequent payment, you will be given the contact of the carrier who will be in charge of delivering the container. You will agree with him on the exact time and date of delivery. And on its basis, you will secure a crane.

What kind of crane should I get for folding?

To properly stack a shipping container, you’ll need a high-performance crane capable of handling heavy equipment.

The most commonly used is the so-called self-propelled mobile crane or car crane. These cranes are equipped with wheels and are easily portable to different locations. They have sufficient lifting capacity and reach and are excellent for handling containers. Alternatively, a hydraulic arm truck capable of handling containers can be hired. These cranes are mobile and can be used in different places according to your needs. Or another handling technique that can handle handling containers.

Attention: when choosing the size of the crane, it is necessary to take into account how far the container will be stacked from the trailer!

Accordingly, it is necessary to choose, for example, a 10-ton crane, a 30-ton crane, etc. The crane can normally move the truck within a standard radius according to the length of the portable arm and also the load capacity of the crane at a certain tilt. We mean the radius from where the container truck is parked to the final stacking point. So it is necessary that the crane and the truck can stop not far apart or behind each other for safe unloading from the trailer.

It is also necessary to always choose a suitable crane or other handling technique according to the size and weight of the container being purchased. For a 20′ or 40′ container, depending on the size and weight of the container, it will be necessary to ensure a different load capacity of the crane. Also take into account the inclination of the surfaces if the container cannot be folded flat! The larger crane will be needed.

Apart from the crane, what else needs to be provided to fold a container?

If you want to secure folding including deposition of the container separately, it is necessary to secure not only the crane itself, but also the tie-downs. The container will hang, anchor and accompany the overall handling between the crane and the truck driver. Neither the crane driver nor the truck driver will move the container for you from the truck to the crane or vice versa. They will only provide their part of the work.

Securing the tier together with the crane is not everything. You also need to ensure how the tier gets to the container when it is unloaded for hanging. The height of the container including the truck is approx. 4m, accordingly you must choose a ladder and how the binder will get to the container, etc.

It is also necessary to take into account that there are no obstacles in the place of unloading and its surroundings. Like power lines, houses, trees, etc., because the crane cannot put the container over the power lines for safety reasons. He too has his occupational safety guidelines to follow.

And last but not least, don’t forget the surface where the semi-trailer truck and the crane will arrive. The approach to the site must be sufficiently paved so that the drivers can reach their destination safely and do not fall in. An unpaved narrow dirt road or waterlogged surface is not acceptable.

SUMMARY

When choosing the right crane, it is important to always consider the dimensions and weight of the container you will be working with. And also the space and position in which the crane will be used. It is important to ensure that the crane meets safety standards and is operated by experienced operators.

Of course, all the above instructions are indicative and therefore you always need to consider the specific place of unloading.

If the above points are not met, it is possible that the crane operator will refuse to collect the container. And that is good to avoid. Therefore, provide the company where you order the crane with as much information as possible about the place of assembly and the purchased container. It is best to provide photos of the site or the possibility for the crane operator to come to the site to look in advance. So you can avoid any problems found on site. When they have the opportunity to look at the place in advance, the drivers will say what is possible or not. Alternatively, look at photos of the arrival, the journey, the place of unloading, etc.

A mobile crane is often called differently. It is important to note that specific names may vary depending on the region and language where you are composing. So different local terms can also be used.
